I often find myself focusing on the negative moments I’ve had with my kids. Being a mother of two children, one of whom has special needs, can be hard and exhausting. But it is the greatest thing I've ever done. So I have given myself a challenge. For a year I will end every day describing one thing I found truly beautiful. On many days this will be easy. On the challenging days I will have to dig deep. I hope to discover the challenge is picking only one beautiful thing each day.

Squirrel!
For my first something beautiful I'm writing about my daughter and dog admiring a squirrel together. This may not at first seem worthy of the tittle "beautiful" to you but let me explain. Tessie was in the middle of a play-doh feast spectacular, dressed to the nines as befits a princess, when I called her to the window. She has spotted several creatures sitting in our front yard since we have moved in. This time she was chatting away to Lucy (who was quivering with the desire to chase Tessie's new friend) about what the squirrel was doing and where she lived and what her babies names were... I was simply overcome with happiness as I experienced her imagined world through her eyes. Her wonder and pleasure in the simple act of watching a squirrel eat spilled bird seed was pure beauty to me.
